The following is the speech of the Secretary General of Khiam Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture, Mr. Mohammed Safa: 

Khiam Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture condemns the terrorism against the United Nations place in Iraq and condolences the Secretary General of the United Nations Mr. Koffi Anan and the families of the victims, considering the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Sergio Vieira De Mello, and the other victims Martyrs of humanity and peace in the world.

This crime has proved that occupation can’t bring peace, democracy, and freedom for the Iraqi people. Occupation did nothing but doubling the Iraqi sufferings and pain, and this demands the withdrawal of the American forces from Iraq and urges the United Nations to take action and supervise the political situation there in order to contribute to the construction of a democratic Iraq.

This symbolic demonstration, which Khiam Rehabilitation Center and the Lebanese Institution for Human Rights organize in front of the United Nations Place in Beirut, is fidelity greeting to the martyr Sergio Vieira De Mello and all the victims of this horrible act.

The terrorism that aimed at the United Nations place in Iraq is the same that aims daily at the Palestinian people and the human rights in the whole world, it’s the same terrorism that deploys military forces and mass-destructive weapons to dominate the world.

Terrorism contradicts with rights.
Terrorism contradicts with peace.
Terrorism contradicts with justice.
Terrorism contradicts with Democracy.
Terrorism contradicts with human rights. 

That’s why we demonstrate today, in solidarity with the United Nations and the Iraqi people and to raise voices against terrorism that aims at rights, peace, justice, democracy and human rights in Iraq and the entire world. 

We demonstrate with the United Nations because we want it to be more powerful and resolved in struggling with the vanquished populations. 

We demonstrate in order to greet the High Commissioner for Human Rights and all the victims of terrorism and human rights violations.

We demonstrate in order to support all the human rights activists and strugglers for peace and democracy. 

We demonstrate in order to develop our unity and struggle in the human rights issues.

Greetings to the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Sergio Vieira De Mello.

Greetings to all the victims of this crime.

Greetings to the Iraqi people.

The Director of the Lebanese Institution for Human Rights had a speech also in which he called the United Nations to pass over this calamity and to continue in taking its tasks in Iraq and to expand more and more in order to be the first resource for the Iraqi people in his struggle towards democracy and independence.

Dr. Amin Madani, representative of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Arab regions, joined the demonstration having been cured from the wounds he had during the terrorist action in the Uited Nations in Iraq. Dr. Madani condemned that action and considered that it shows disrespect and unfaithfulness for the role of the United Nations that have been struggling since long for the vanquished people.

Mr. Najib Freiji, director of the information office in the United Nations, received a letter from Khiam Center that is addressed to Mr. Koffi Anan, Secretary General of the United Nations. Mr. Freiji said that Terrorism will not hinder us form performing our role in the course of human rights and peace.

                                                                                                                              

Demonstration of grief


His Excellency Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Koffi Anan,

We, at Khiam Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture, would like to present our deep condolences for the death of your representative in Iraq, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Sergio Vieira De Mello and the other representatives of the United Nations who were the victims of the terrorism that committed his crime in the United Nations place in Iraq.

This crime, which is against humanity, does not aim at the United Nations only and its humanistic role, but also at Iraq to keep it in the circle of violence, destruction and war.

His Excellency,

This horrible crime should form a motive for the United Nations to continue the humanistic role and to help the Iraqi people to attain their independence and live in a democratic dependent state.

Condemning this horrible act, Khiam Rehabilitation Center organize a demonestration in front of the United Nations Place in Beirut, on Tuesday 26/08/2003 at 11:00 AM.
