The scenes of torture
practiced in Abu Gharib Prison and Al-Basra, which were shown in the
media, shows the atrocity of the allied forces practices against the Iraqi
prisoners of war. Such practices indicate the way these forces despise the
human dignity and values, just as happen in Israel since half a decade.
The scenes take us back in history to the times when uncivilized actions
were made during invasions.
The declared reactions of such actions, which were confined to shy
statements that included terms like detestation, astonishment,
shock…etc. don’t fit with the size of this scandal that shakes the
human conscience. It’s a crime committed by invaders that occupied an
independent country under deceiving means.
What is happening in Iraq and Palestine, and had happened before in
Lebanon, Rwanda and other places in the world is not new for the United
States, which has always been taking such actions against the weaker
populations. However, it surprised those who were deceived by the United
States its alleged mission of democracy and human rights promotion. Those
have seen the truth about the United States through the pictures about the
torture that is being practiced in Iraq; they have seen the American
troops as invaders renouncing the noble concepts of civilization,
confiscating the land of Iraq by armed forces and mercenaries, destroying
the structure of a complete community by bombing the cities and villages
and humiliating the civilians at all ages…
The actions of the United States and its allied have proved the following
facts:
1- The commitment of war crimes in Abu Gharib Prison and Al-Basra by the
invaders, crimes that the International law prohibits and condemns.
2- Taking the American soldiers’ ignorance of the International law and
Geneva conventions as an excuse for these violations is a guilt in itself
because it was issued by a country that claims to be the most democratic
state in the world.
3- The American refusal to enter the International Criminal Court is
nothing but an attempt to protect its troops and to cover the facts.
The moral duty urges us
to cry out in this silence to condemn torture in all its forms no matter
where it comes from, and thus we call up on for the International public
opinion and human rights organizations to take action through:
1- Considering Iraq a place where human rights are highly violated.
2- Working for the release of all the war prisoners and making it possible
for the International Committee of Red Cross, Amnesty International and
the other concerned organizations to take its role in this concern.
3- Forming an investigative committee to uncover the violations that are
being committed.
4- Forming public courts out of civil organizations in order to suit the
sides responsible for the situation in Iraq.
