December 10 – International Day
for Human Rights
On the occasion of Human Rights Day, the Khiam Rehabilitation Center for the Victims of Torture (KRC) and the Follow-Up Committee in Support of the Lebanese Detainees in Israeli Prisons drew up a human rights plan for Lebanon.
The plan will be presented at an upcoming workshop. The KRC and the Follow-Up Committee called for introducing the subject of human rights in educational curricula as an official subject.
The working paper also called for "giving more attention to the Lebanese detainees in Syria and Israel." It also called for Lebanon to sign all human rights-related conventions, especially the Rome Statute (International Criminal Court).
The KRC and the Follow-Up Committee called for solidarity among civil society organizations on the issue of releasing Lebanese detainees in Israel finding out the fate of the missing persons and returning the bodies of martyrs.
The working paper condemned the mass graves recently discovered at the Defense Ministry and in Anjar and called for "an official civil committee to find all mass graves and to hold the leaders of the war accountable."
