Stop the Political Arrests
The Arab authorities
continue to arrest the opinion and political positions leaders, just
because their perspectives
oppose the official ones.
In Tunisia, the authorities arrested Jalal El-Zaghlami and his brother
Najib because of their opposition for the regime
and their calls for the freedom of the people in deciding their
country’s destiny.
And in Syria, The Human
Rights Organization declared on 2/10/2004 that the authorities detained on
30/9/2004
the author and researcher Nabil Fayad who is the speaker of the Liberal
Group.
While in Bahrain, Mr.
Abdel Hadi Al-Khawajah, a human rights activist and the director of the
Bahraini Center for
Human Rights, was arrested on 25/9/2004 after calling upon for fighting
poverty in Bahrain during a colloquium on
“The Economic Rights” on 23/9/2004.
This arrest's campaign
continues in KSA and other Arab countries, and what is going on in
Bahrain, Syria and
Tunisia is a small picture of what goes on in all Arab countries where
freedom is suppressed and the human rights
activists and civil society bodies are arrested.
Khiam Rehabilitation
Center for Victims of Torture highly condemns such practices that
contradicts with the
International Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention Against
Torture, and thus urges the Arab governments to:
§
Stop the political arrests and respect the International
Laws that secure the democratic rights;
§
Release all the detainees;
§
And stop the harassments against the civil society
organizations.
