has performed several activities in 26 June, the
national day for the opposition of torture.
‘No Torture’ Forum
“No Torture”, a forum was initiated in The Unisco Palace on 24/ 06/2001 and concluded on 27/06/2001. The
forum contained pictures and frames about torture practiced in different places in the world with the
participation of many Arab and National Human Organizations.
The mother of the detainee, Anwar Yassine, opened the forum then there was a speech by the member of Khiam
Rehabilitation Center, Suzan Alzein, and here is it:
No Torture
In the National Day against Torture,
In the National Day of Struggle against all kinds of torture that were practiced against the spirits and
bodies of human fellows of ours.
In this day, we greet all those who are experiencing
torture all over the world and to all those who are
resisting torture, and shall this day be a national squall against the torture perpetrators against the
human being, the child, the woman and the prisoners.
In this day, we assist all those who suffered in the Israeli prisons and those who are still suffering.
We assist all those whom the torture left a trace on their bodies and spirits.
We assist those whose heads are oozing with pain whenever they waked up, and scared from a closed door
even after they are freed, and hated pillars on roads because it remembers them with another kind of
pillars.
Torture is one of the most meanness deeds that one might commit against the others.
Torture is a crime against humanity in reference to the national law.
Torture is hunger.
Torture is thirst.
Torture is narrow and dirty walls.
Torture is a foul smelling we smell from a far.
Torture is batteries heard on the bodies of the others.
Torture is kicking on the heads, suspension, electricity, whipping, rape, cursing and insulting.
Torture is violence.
Torture is eavesdropping to heart beatings.
Torture is detention, and forcible disappearance.
Torture is execution, and unfair trials.
Torture is forbidden in the National Law, for article 5 of the National Declaration of Human Rights lays
down that:” No human being should be subjected to torture or cruel or savage or humble treatments”.
Torture is illegal according to Geneva Agreements.
Moreover the General Committee of the UN has acknowledged an agreement against torture in the
resolution 39/46 on 10 December 1984. Also no government has the right to practice torture in case
or war.
For all that we, Khiam Rehabilitation Center for the Victims of Torture, introduce “No Torture” forum in
order to get you acquainted to the savagery of torture in the Israeli Prisons and different parts in the
world.
Let us say loud:
No Torture at all.
Stop the use of all the means of torture.
Never let the perpetrators of torture escape punishment, but suiting them as happened with the ex-
dictator of Chilly, Aughosto Pinocchiet.
Suit Sharon and Barak and Perese and, the mercenary, Antoine Lahdand all the perpetrators of torture all
over the world.
“No Torture” forum is an invitation to resist torture and forbid it.
It’s an invitation for the governments to repress detention and kidnapping operations.
It’s an invitation to protest against the perpetrators of torture.
It’s an invitation to support the survivors of torture, to rehabilitate them and compensate for them.
In the National Day against Torture we say:
No torture,
Forbid torture,
Together against torture.
Memorandum of the martyr Kamil Daher
KRC organized a bestowal of honor for the martyr Kamil Daher, who was strike by an unknown car on 26/06/1999
and was bleed to death, in the Lebanese Syndicate of
Press on 26/09/2001.
Artistic Scenery ‘Together against Torture’
KRC along with Human Rights Movement organized also an artistic scenery ‘Together against Torture’ to
assure their opposition for torture practiced by any party and against any party whatever was his
affiliation.
The program included an expressive scenery activity and visual and audible show for testimonies by
tortured persons.
KRC Speech
The member of KRC, Darine Wehbe, made an announcement and here is it:
“The national day for the opposition of torture, is the day where the goodwill of all the world meet
together to oppose one of the most menial actions which a human could commit against another, that is
torture.
This is day that honors the victims of torture and procreates solidarity movements with them to bring
them dignity again.
A day in which we remember the victims of torture whom survived with mental and physical residues.
In Lebanon, this event takes a special importance
because of the great suffer of our people during the Israeli occupation, for Israel has practiced torture
(physical and mental) in Khiam Detention Camp which was a symbol of the violation for the human rights in
the whole world. In this prison 2500 Lebanese Citizens were imprisoned there without mentioning the thousands
that were imprisoned in Ansar Prison.
In this day we ask for suiting the proprietors of torture and to present a complaint paper by the names
of those who suffered from torture in the Israeli Prisons to Against Torture Committee of the United
Nations.
We ask for The Khiam National Trial to suit the Israeli Commanders who committed crimes against the
Lebanese Citizens.
In the National day for resisting torture let our voices say high:
No for torture, and not to let the proprietors of torture go without punishment.
No torture, together against torture.
Human Rights Speech
There was also a speech by the Human Rights Movement and here it is:
I was put on a chair, tied by chains for two weeks where they hit me and kicked my chest all the time.
When she came back she was crying, she told us that she was raped by three or for soldiers.
They tortured me using electricity for several hours.
They drove me out to the yard and forced me to eat a bird covered by feathers that was died two days ago.
Those are testimonies by persons that were arrested and tortured.
Words stand helpless unable to express the pain and suffering of the humans, but what if pain was planned
and protected by law or what if it was committed by the name of justice, honor and other unjustified
reasons.
Torture is mostly practiced on those who oppose official political authorities and we all know what
has been going on these days from changes in the political positions.
Torture issues also out of racial, sexual, religious and mental discrimination. But aren’t differences
between people a source of rich?
These days, the making of the torture instruments became an art and they show pride of instruments that
cause more pain. This and these instruments became trade goods that the developed countries make.
In the National Day for Resisting Torture, we say again no for practicing any form of torture on human
persons whatever was the issue they struggle for and despite their political belongings. We reject torture
whoever practiced it and we confess our support for all the detainees and those who are suffering torture
all over the world.
We call upon for the government to perform its duty and prevent torture practice, we also call upon for
the implementation of Resisting Torture Agreement that Lebanon signed on 24\05\200.
And we conclude by the word of a person that survived torture:
“Now I found another way to struggle I have to stay alive, I have to shine in the heart of history as a
witness”.
