The
Report
May 7, 2008 a new
chapter in the chapters of the ambulant bloody war in Lebanon but certainly
more violent than Jan 23 and 25, 2007 and January 27, 2008.
The Wednesday strike and the demand demonstration turned into blocking roads,
burning tires, closing the airport, sticks, Molotov hand grenades, ambulant paradoxes,
throwing grenades, exchange of fire, sniper bullets, injured journalists,
wounded soldiers, ambulances and civil defense, strike, beats and conflict.
If the spate of violence was a response to the government decisions on the
telecommunications network of the resistance and the dismissing of the
airport's security chief as announced by the opposition, this new wave of
violence has reaped about 300 dead and injured as well as massive damage to
properties, shops, cars and houses, during which serious human rights
violations were committed and was represented by the renewal of kidnappings
according to one's identity and terrorizing citizens in all areas by firing
bullets and bomb, killing many civilians with reckless bullets, preventing
the movement of citizens due to cut roads and closure of the airport,
muzzling the media group of the Future Movement and the burning of some,
destroying some of the social and educational institutions, sacrilege and
abuse of religious institutions, the infringement on houses of some deputies
from the opposition and the government supporters, as well as many other
ignominious practices that paid its price the citizens staying at their homes
in Beirut, the north, the Bekaa and the mountains, but the most dangerous in
this new bloody chapter of the Lebanese crisis is the loose of the sectarian
impulses and the native fighting between the burghers of the same town, and
sometimes of the same building and the same street, which threatens into a
serious sectarian classification that was not witnessed during the civil war
in 1975.
The acute political crisis and the absence of a national unified speech
fractured the social and national structure of the Lebanese society, and if
the properties, cars, buildings and all material losses could be compensated,
but there is a severe psychological crisis lying in the selfsame of the
citizens as well as a serious sectarian rift that will have devastating
consequences especially in Beirut due to the malpractices against the
citizens.
The cease-fire and withdrawal of armed manifestations from Beirut and other
areas is very important for the return of normalcy to the capital, but the
depth of the wounds of this war can not be healed, and we will see the birth
of a new violent, aggressive generation, predecessor to the other, of course,
not the other opinion, but the other belief and other sect, and the most
serious will be among young people and children. Khiam Center calls out loud
and away from the two sides of conflict, the government supporters and the
opposition, to abide by the international laws and the expulsion of civilians
from armed conflicts and to respect public freedoms and the other opinion and
to be away from the language of violence and the in-resorting to arms to
resolve political differences. KRC also calls on the civil society bodies to
launch a media campaign and a variety of activities to renounce sectarianism
to consider the sectarian incitation, from any party, a crime against the
homeland and the citizen, calling the parliament to approve a law
criminalizing and prohibiting sectarian prejudices and punishing its
promoters considering them as outlaws and criminals of war.
