The Israeli Cluster bombs: an on going threat for the persons and things (Read in Arabic)
Despite the cease-fire, the Israeli war did not end. Another threat is hunting civilians in the south, and the Bekaa. Cluster bombs and unexploded shells left by Israel are still making casualties and dead. Needless to say that the riddle of the landmines lodged by Israel during the occupation of the south for 22 years until 2000 is still unsolved yet another killing ghost had added insult to injury. Cluster bombs left between residential houses and fields of olives, vineries and tobacco are killing or injuring daily many persons. Lots of children are victims of such bombs since the same are shaped like dolls and gifts.
Cluster bombs are palm size containers spread over 200 m from the target site. Each bomb may contain 50 to 80 bursting bombs.
This alarming situation made the UNICEF state the people in Lebanon are sitting on an active volcano of 100 thousand unexploded bombs spread in villages and cities. The United Nations had already pointed 400 sites bombed with hundred thousands of cluster bombs with a 40% default explosions rate.
An Israeli officer, who had participated in the war against Lebanon, revealed that the Israeli forces have launched over 1.2 million cluster bombs over the South and deemed this action as barbarian. He added that one of the missiles threw around 1800 fragmentation bomb containing 1.2 million cluster bombs. He concluded saying:” our acts were hysterical and barbarian since we had comprehensively covered some zones with cluster bombs”. The officer also clarified that the cluster bombs were massively used despite their inaccuracy. In fact, their deviation degree may reach 1200 meters, and most of the same do not explode and turn into landmines. Most of the experts consider that the cluster bombs “do not differentiate between civil and military targets” and are forbidden in residential areas. These bombs are dangerous since the same explode at the simplest move and are found in trees or houses.
David SHERER – Coordinator of the Humanitarian Affairs in the UN – Lebanon had declared on September 1st, 2006, that the evacuation of all cluster bombs left in the south by the Israeli army may take between 12 or 15 months.
Soldiers who undertook the land operations declared that they have threw phosphoric bombs over Lebanon during the war. These weapons are prohibited by the international law and were launched during the last 10 days. These bombs were intended to make fires in Lebanon.
On August 14th: at 9 am, the shepherd Ibrahim AMACHA died in Ansar by the explosion of a cluster bomb while shepherding. He had fled Farroun and moved to Ansar, which he considered safer for his herd.
Two hours later in Habboush, Hadi El HATTAB died while playing with a bomb that exploded next to his home. 4 other children were injured Moussa, and Mohamad IBRAHIM, Ali and Hanniya HATTAB. Mazen NAHLE a rescuer in the Civil Defense was also injured in Habboush. In Yohmor Chakif, Suleima BARAKAT was reported injured.
In Yohmor, Sheik Youssef KHALIL was injured while trying to move cluster bombs from the highway.
August 15th: The child Noura ABI ZAYED was injured in Zawtar West, as well as Ahmad Kassem TORKIYE and Safwa DILAJ due to the explosion of cluster bombs.
August 16th: Ali TORKIYE from Zawtar west was reported dead. He had dismantled 150 cluster bombs from the fields and streets of the village.
August 17th: The farmers Ahmad MAHDI and Ali EL MELIGI died while inspecting their gardens in Nakura. In Deir Kanoun, Ali EZZEDINE died after inhaling the smoke of a phosphoric bomb.
August 18th: Ahmad CHOUKEIR died due to severe injuries in Zawtar west.
August 19th: Ali ABU EID died and Hussein KIKI was injured due to the explosion of a cluster bomb in the outskirts of Batouleh.
August 21st: Amine and Hassan YAGHI were injured due to the explosion of a cluster bomb in Zawtar west.
August 23rd: The Commander Samir MERHEB, Sergeant in chief Sarkis EL DRAYBI and soldier Mayass EL ALI died while trying to dismantle a missile in Tebnine outskirts.
August 27th: 4 children Ahmad CHEBLI, Ali HASSAN, Sahar HASSAN and Abbas ABBAS were injured in Blida while playing in the garden of a neighboring house. In Houla, Mahmoud YACCOUB was injured while shepherding.
August 30th: Aliya Hassan HAYEK died in Adchit (Nabatieh)
September 3rd: Adel KOMAYHA died due to the explosion of a missile in Kafassir
September 5th: A bomb exploded in Srifa. Hassan El LAHHAM was injured.
September 6th: Two soldiers Hussein SOUEIDAN and Hussein AYOUB died and a third one injured while trying to dismantle some bombs in Aita El Chaeb. Ali Kassem BAKRI was injured in Zawtar west.
September 8th: Nasser Hassan HAYDAR and Hassan Nasser HAYDAR were injured in Arab Salim due to the explosion of a cluster bomb.
August 9th, 2006: Ramez KARCHET (50 years) from El Klayleh was injured while gardening in El Azziyeh (north of Tyr). Hussein Ali AHMAD suffered also from severe injuries in Yohmor Chkif due to the explosion of a cluster bomb.
September 15th: Ahmad ADEL SABBAH was injured due to the explosion of a cluster bomb on the roof of his house.
September 16th: the coach Aziz FEKRI (Iraqi national) from MAG (anti-mines) was injured due to explosion of a cluster bomb.
September 18th: Radwan Omran GHANDOUR and his spouse Faten Ahmad ALI were injured due to the explosion of a cluster bomb.
September 19th, 2006: Officer Mohamad Eid and the civilian Salah DEMERJI were injured and the soldier Elias CHAHDA was killed while trying to extinguish a fire in Bazourieh due to the explosion of a cluster bomb.
September 28th: Mohamad SULTAN (12 years) died yet Jamil and Abbas SULTAN were injured due to the explosion of a cluster bomb while moving away the wreckage of their house in Sawana. Ali Hammoudi driver of the bulldozer was also injured.
In Kaekaiyat el Jesr, Nazha SALAMEH (30 years) was injured.
October 4th: A cluster bomb exploded in Zawtar east, Mohamad MAHDI was injured.
October 5th: khalil KHAYRALLAH and Ali MAKNI were injured in Tayr Debba due to the explosion of a cluster bomb.
October 6th: Khalil KHAYRALLAH (75 years old) and Ali MAKNA (50 years) were injured due to the explosion of a cluster bomb in the orange fields in South Tayr Debba.
In Al wazzani, many children were survived miraculously death. As a matter of fact, they have found chocolate bars on the street sides wrapped with aluminum foils. One of their friends warned them from touching the same.
October 8th, 2006: Ali LOUBANI (72 years) was injured in Zawtar East due to the explosion of a cluster bomb while gardening. His right hand finger was cut and he suffered from many injuries.
October 9th: Mohamad EL KHATIB and Rida RIDA were injured due to the explosion of a cluster bomb in the sea of Itaniyeh – Tyr. His right fingers were cut.
October 10th: Zahra SOUFAN (11 years) was injured due to the explsion of a cluster bomb while playing near her parents’ house in Jwaya. She undertook a hand surgery and one of her fingers were cut.
October 11th: Khodr KOMAYHA – shepherd (21 years) was injured and burnt due to the explosion of a cluster bomb while shepherding.
October 12th: Abbas Hassan ISSA (33 years) was injured in Jebchit.
October 13th: Mahdi JABER (5 years) was injured and burnt while playing near the house of his parents in Kana due to the explosion of a cluster bomb.
October 16th: Samir EL CHARKAWI (40 years) Imad GHAZALI (26 years - Syrian) and Anwar HASSAN (30 years – Syrian) were injured while gathering spare parts in Harouf and Dwayr due to the explosion of an unknown object.
October 17th: Ahmad JAWAD (18 years) was killed, and his brother Ali (19 years) injured in Halloussiyeh due to the explosion of a cluster bomb.
October 22nd: The teenager Rami CHEBLI (11 years) died and his brother Khodr (13 years) was injured in Halta due to the explosion of a cluster bomb which fall from a pine tree.
The anti-mine office – Lebanese army declared that the heavy rains had covered cluster bombs which caused a delay in evacuating the same from the soil of the south until 2008.
October 25th: Ali MANAKI survived miraculously the explosion of a cluster bomb, 9 of his sheep died. Hadi ALI TRABOULSI (14 years) was injured in Habboush, nabatieh and was treated in the Public hospital of Nabatieh. 15 other sheep died in the zone between Maarakeh and Jannata – Tyr due to the explosion of a cluster bomb.
October 31st: Hafez khalil ABBAS died and Fahd YAGHI was severely injured due to the explosion of an unidentified body in Abbas El Moussawi High school. Abbas is a car driver in the said school, he found the object near the wall of the school. He took it to the supervisor at the first floor. The object exploded. The driver died immediately and the superintendent Fahd YAGHI was injured.
November 2nd: A cluster bomb exploded in Arab Salim in an olive field. Ali Hassan HATTAB was injured in his leg and was transported to a public hospital for treatment.
November 5th: Bilal MOGHNIYE from Tay deba – Tyr was transporting 3 cluster bombs on a motorcycle around 9 pm. When he arrived nearby a military base for the Lebanese army in Tayr Debba a cluster bomb exploded. He suffered from severe injuries and as transported to Jabal Amel hospital where he undertook a surgery.
The victims of cluster bombs until the date of this report issuance was fixed to 24 dead and 114 injured persons….
