El Nadim Center from
Egypt joins efforts with the Khiam Center
to support the Victims of War (Sep 2, 2006 - Sep9, 2006) Read
in Arabic
The KRC started a training
seminar about the "After War Traumas" in the main office
of the FollowUp Committee for the Support of the Lebanese Detainees in the
Israeli Prisons to around 15 activists of the KRC in the domain of
rehabilitation of victims of violence and torture under the directions of Dr.
Magda Adly and Dr. Suzan Fayyad from El Nadim Center for Psychological
Treatment and Rehabilitation.
The training seminar will continue till Thursday September 7, 2006 in
which the Australian writer David Denborough, the author of "Trauma"
participated in the first session of this seminar.
The aim of this seminar is to train the team work specialized in
confronting the traumas, the shocks and the results of the Israeli brutal
attack had caused.
First, a welcoming statement
from Mr. Safa evaluating the valuable El Nadim's solidarity contribution.
Then, Dr. Magda Adly had a statement in the name of El Nadim Center and on
behalf all the Egyptian people, the families, the children, the mothers
and all who considered that what was happening in Lebanon was as if taking
place in Egypt, expressing the feelings of sympathy and support of the
Egyptians towards the resisting Lebanese people sending their regards and
admiration towards the resistance's victory, where many had wished if
he/she could come to contribute in even removing the dust and the rubbles
in the South and Beirut Southern Suburb.
Dr. Adly said that the discussions in the After War Traumas is very
essential in assisting the victims of war who need a vast social
intervention from schools, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Social
Affairs. Dr. Adly assured that El Nadim center wanted to cooperate with
Khiam Center which played and still is an important special role.
Then, Dr. Suzan Fayyad talked about trauma describing it a sudden
surprising act, strong, stronger than our capabilities and not familiar.
It is cruel and have the ability to threat life, it causes confusion and
extreme horror, meaning that it is out of the normal traditional by nature
experience which is supposed to start from childhood such as "nature
disasters, rape, etc..".
The reactions resulting from a trauma would be either on the spot which
disappear after a little while or it persist and continue having late psychological
effects. The reactions differ from one person to another:
-
Experiences since
childhood
-
Age difference (baby,
child, teenager, adult)
-
Gender
-
Time of trauma
-
Severity of trauma
An open discussion followed
where the trainers spoke about their experiences about war trauma.
El Nadim center used the brainstorm tool with the trainers to discuss the
reasons and types of worrying suggesting preliminary treatment methods for
the children through listening, story narrating, relaxing by music and
drawing and trying to integrate the local activities with school teachers
and other organizations.
El Nadim center also joined the efforts with the Khiam Center medical team
on Sunday and Monday visiting Aita El Shaab, El Mansoury, Majdal Zoun, El
Hinniyyeh, Seddekeen, Zebkeen and Jbal El Botom, where patients were
examined and given free medications.
The Egyptian delegation visited also the families of the martyrs and
victims of war in these villages listening to the suffering of a number of
survivors from the families of the martyrs and the returning people
to their villages where discussion group circles were formed and El Nadim
doctors gave psychological and medical instructions as well as some medications
for the trauma cases and depression.
The delegation whose
solidarity visit continues till the coming Saturday, saluted the
resistance and the civilians.

N.B.: Today was very special because we knew from the colleagues at
El Nadim from Egypt that today is Dr. Suzan's Birthday. It was a nice
little surprise for her arranged by Hind.
