The destruction of the Khiam Center in the South of Lebanon

The Secretary General of the Khiam Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture Mohammed Safa declared that the Israeli Forces had bombed and totally destroyed deliberately the Khiam Center’s branch in the South under the name “House of the Lebanese Detainee” in Der Seryan village on 23/07/2006 as been informed by the villagers who witnessed the bombing before they left the village.

Safa said that all the contents of the Center were destroyed and this includes all the health and cultural contents such as the library, the clinic, the PCs, the sewing machines and other training tools, the pharmacy and the furniture.

Safa and after visiting Der Seryan village along with a medical team from the center meeting the villagers who returned to their homes, checked the House of the Lebanese Detainee and its damage considering that the destruction was due to the Israeli annoy from the role of the House as well as from its media, health, psychological, social and career role in support for the liberated detainees and for the victims of torture in the Israeli Prisons.

Safa said that Israelis are very much mistaken if they thought that by destroying the Khiam Detention Camp and the House of the Lebanese Detainee they would be capable of erasing their crimes torturing the detainees, for that the destruction actions are added crimes to the Israeli criminal history where children and women are always the victims.

Safa said that the House of the Lebanese Detainee will be a witness for the horrible Israeli brutality and a symbol for the case of the detainees and the released detainees and that it will be reconstructed to proceed our activities and to support the people to empower their health, social and psychological resistance. Safa called upon all the International, humanitarian and health organizations to condemn Israel for its crimes killing the babies and the civilians as well as attacking the health centers and the hospitals.

Safa announced the continuity of the center’s social and medical activities in a room offered by the villagers of Der Seryan till we reconstruct the House again.
