Safa, Secretary General of 1- Today on the UN International Day In Support of Victims Torture, we re-open for the second time, the Khiam Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture Southern branch (the House of the Lebanese Detainee) after it was destroyed by the Israeli occupation forces in the brutal aggression in July 2006, this aggression on the southern villages and other Lebanese areas turned them into rubbles and smoke. The House of the Lebanese Detainee was not a military base, it was a health and a social rehabilitation center for prisoners and victims of torture and to support them on vital levels. 2- The re-opening of the House of the Lebanese Detainee to remain a witness to the crimes of the occupation against the prisoners in the Khiam detention camps, Tel Nahhas, Center 17, Marjayoun barracks, Zaghlah Center and Ansar Detention camp. 3- The re-opening of the House of the Lebanese Detainee is a reminder of minefields and cluster bombs that kill with the morning of every day several martyrs and causing many wounded people. 4- Is a reminder of the destroyed houses which is still waiting for the release of the official compensations to be rebuilt. 5- Is a reminder of the Lebanese detainees and missing whether in Israeli or the Syrian Prisons. 6- And here I thank the Council for Development and Reconstruction for offering the support material support to the restoration project and the processing of the House of the Lebanese Detainee after the attack in July 2006, within the framework of the social development project funded by the World Bank where the value of the assistance is 46,343 USD. 7-
The re-opening of the House of the Lebanese Detainee which runs in the context of activities on June 26,
the United Nations Day in Support of Victims of Torture is a new start for the activation of this center and the development of services and
the expand of the health, psychological, social, vocational and cultural activities, and because of the support of the Council for Development and Reconstruction,
our medical clinic became equipped with the most modern medical equipment: In the center, various doctors and social workers and psychologists will be present throughout the week to provide health services and psychological guidance and hygiene. The center also includes five sewing machines for training females to support the released female prisons as well as supplies and office furniture to enrich it with human rights documents and books and studies on human rights and against torture and all international agreements on women and children's books, cultural and social variety to make this house a house of education on human rights and to renounce violence and torture.
