Khiam Rehabilitation
Center for victims of torture in collaboration with the Indonesian troop
has celebrated on 31/05/2008 the graduation of a group of the children
of torture survivors who have finished a computer literacy course in the
House of the Lebanese Detainee in Deir Seryan. The celebration was held
with the presence of Mohamad Safa , the secretary- General of the Khiam
center, the leader of the Indonesian troop, Colonel Bontranto, officers
from the civil- military cooperation unit in the Spanish troop, the
media and the human resource officer in the Indonesian troop, Major
Sandy, the officers who tutored the students, the students and their
parents, and a group of local citizens.
After the Lebanese and Indonesian
national anthems were played, Colonel Botranto in his addressing speech
talked about the important role of parents in providing their children
with a good education. Moreover, he considered that the course organized
by his troop in collaboration with KRC opens new horizons for the
children to learn about the new technologies in the future. In addition
to that, he considered that it is all people’s responsibility to prepare
children in a good way to understand globalization, and he considered
that the computer course was just a preliminary course that might
encourage students to know more about computers in the future. Then, he
hoped peace and prosperity for Lebanon and the world at the end of his
speech.
The secretary-general of KRC, Mr.
Mohamad Safa, thanked the UNIFIL for providing services for people, and
talked about the importance of the cooperation between the Indonesian
troop and KRC, and the importance of the role of the Indonesian troop in
the area in helping the local citizens. He, then, considered these
services as a compensation for the government’s negligence for the
Southern areas. Moreover, Safa congratulated the released detainee
Nassim Nisir and his family, and considered that the joy will be whole
with the release of all the prisoners including Samir Al Kontar from the
Israeli prisons including. He also demanded revealing the fate of all
the missing people in Lebanon. Safa then addressed Nassim Nisir claiming
that he was released from the Israeli prison to enter the prison of
sectarianism in Lebanon.

The soldiers of the Indonesian
troop then performed dances and songs from the Indonesian folklore.
After that, the students had a test in computer literacy to examine
their abilities in running the computer. At the end of the ceremony, Mr.
Safa presented a memorial shield to Colonel Botranto as an appreciation
gift. A cocktail party was then held on the honor of the participants.
This ceremony is a part of a program run by the Indonesian troop, and
this program provides services for the local citizens in Southern
Lebanon in the area of the troop’s work. This program is a chain of
exchanging customs, traditions, arts, and folklore between the soldiers
and the official schools.
